2.28 Powderfinger Sunsets Tour

The concert tonight was amazing!!!! I don't even really know how to describe how excited I was beforehand. I've been a Powderfinger fan for a good 14 years or so and I can't believe tonight is the 2nd last time I'll get to see them live. It's quite sad really but once they started playing I was ecstatic! I had lots of fun jumping around and singing along. I only wish it could have lasted longer.

I can barely remember what songs they played, it all kinda blurred. They did play a few of my absolute faves tho - Bless My Soul, Sunsets, My Kind of Scene and These Days. Love love love!!

I am stoked that I'll get to see them once more at their final ever show in Brisbane at the Riverstage. Love outdoor concerts!

Here are a few pics from the show...

Weeeee! Darren sang Electric Horsemen! I've never seen Darren sing live before. Awesome!

Day 250: I have Powderfinger tickets!!

That's right kids, I managed to get my hands on tickets to both the Sydney and Brisbane shows!!! Yeewww!

I had a major freakout when I didn't get tickets in the first pre-release at 9am. There may have even been tears lol. Thankfully my love of Twitter alerted me to the fact that they had released more tickets and I scored tix to the Sydney show.

The next pre-release was to go on sale at midday, right in the middle of a meeting. Boooo. I lined up my lovely friend Zoe to buy them for me, but they moved the time back to 2pm and I was able to score tix for Brissie. Represent!!

I am beyond stoked, now just have to wait 4.5 months til the shows!

PS - massive boooo to the dirty mofo's who put tix on eBay at triple the retail price within 20 mins of the sale. Ridiculous.

Day 231: Today my heart is broken

So hearing the news that your favourite band for the last 16 years is usually considered to be great news. Hearing that after that tour they are disbanding is the worst news I have received in a very long time.

I can't recall the exact number of times I have seen them live, but it has been quite a few, many of which have been at festivals. The first time was back at Homebake in 1999 on the last day of schoolies, and the most recent was at the Big Day Out a couple months ago. These guys are truly amazing live!! I last mentioned them on my blog here - http://mel365ish.blogspot.com/2010/01/day-154-big-day-out-round-2.html

I feel crushed today, it's like the end of an era. Powderfinger are kind of my 'go-to' band, they're songs never fail to pick up any mood I'm having (even if I'm in the best mood ever, they still make it better).

They have been the soundtrack to so many of my life's experiences, and has been shared with some amazing friends. There are many of their songs that I can't listen to without being reminded of an event or a person in my life.

It's pretty safe to say that today sucks like a mofo.

Day 155: Big Day Out (round 2)

So I promised a follow up from my previous post so here it is.

BDO was freakin amazing!!!! I seriously had such a fabulous day and could not top smiling haha.

Started off the day in the front of the moshpit for Eskimo Joe. These kids put on a damn good show and I never get bored of them no matter how many times I see them. I tweeted about having my fingers crossed they would play Sweater and when they said "now we're going to play something from our very first record" I nearly wet myself! They played Wake Up, which was a bit disappointing cos I had convinced myself that this would finally be the year they played Sweater.

Joel had his shirt unbuttoned and there was a bit of nip action - delightful!

So it was freakin hot in the moshpit (temp was around 40degrees) but then out of nowhere came this crazy cool change and some rain!! Like WHOA!

Next up was Hilltop Hoods (represent represent!!) who put on an amazing set - very impressed. I've seen them once before so knew what to expect - their fans get a little nuts so we stayed on the outer edge and then got trapped when all the Dizzee fans made their way in. Holy shit,I've been in teh middle of many a moshpit (including a crazy Hilltop one) but this was freakin insane. At one point neither of my feet were on the ground and I was sure everyone was about to land in a big pile on top of each other. At this point I lost one of my shoes and we decided to get out of there.

Actually turned out for the best cos it meant we could go to the back of the stadium and dance up a storm (couldn't even move your arms in the middle of the pit), soaking wet and barefoot, to the awesome Dizzee beats. This part was probably the highlight of my day.

Oh, that... and seeing boys in meggings lol.

After Dizzee, we left the crowd because shitty Lily Allen was up. For someone who performs live a LOT, she was absolutely shithouse live. We went to find me a pair of thongs, grab something to eat and drink some fabulous vodka passionfruit slushies

Next on our agenda was Powderfinger. I love these guys but was a little disappointed about 3/4 of the way through their set cos they played a lot of their mellow songs, and I was really hoping for the more rocky upbeat anthems. turned out they saved those til the very end!! Yewww!

Bernard Fanning may just be the love of my life. Though he has some very strong competition from the lead singer of the band that were next on our list - Grinspoon! I've seriously been in love with these two guys (and their bands!) since I was 13. Sexy Phil was in fine form with his crazy dancing, and I was disappointed that we didn't get to see the whole set (overlapped with Powderfinger and then was freakin miles away) but we got there in time to hear Just Ace, More Than You Are and Champion. Heck yes!! 3 of my fave Grinspoon songs!!

We skipped Muse, took in the teachings of Peaches (lolol, she is hysterical!), watched some crazy rides, had more vodka pash slushies then headed back to the main stage for the fireworks before heading over to take in some of Fear Factory's set.

Seriously the BDO did definitely not disappoint this year! I really regret not going for the last few years now because I had such an awesome time. Looking forward to the next festival now! Yeewwwwww!

Day 155: BIG DAY OUT!!!

 Represent!!

So crazy excited to go to the BDO today! Haven't been for yeeears now and have never been to one at Olympic Park. Oh how I miss the days of BDO's on the Goldie!

Super psyched to see Powderfinger, Grinspoon, Hilltop Hoods, Muse and Dizzee.

Will report back tomorrow on how it was!

Day 53: Sunsets over the beaches, from now on

ok so this pic totally wasn't taken at the beach, but in a street near my house. I was walking along to the train station in my own little bubble when all of a sudden I noticed how damn pretty the sky was! I just wish I had been on higher ground to get a clearer pic.

The other exciting thing I saw on that walk was a lady pushing a stroller with a kitty in it hehe. Very cute!

So the reason for the title is the Powderfinger song Sunsets, which anytime I ever hear the word 'sunset', I can immediately hear Bernard Fanning crooning the first line and it always brings a smile to my face. New Powderfinger out soon, yeeewwwww!!! Fave line from that song is this one: "sunrise building a reprise, in my heart". Ahhh Bernard, if you happen to read this - I LOVE YOU!! For real.

Powderfinger - Sunsets
Sunsets over the beaches, from now on
Each day looking for new ways, to go on
Maybe I should drop by maybe I should have called
Maybe I should have followed you and beat down your door
Maybe it's gonna be breaking you every time you fall
But to shower you with pity will do you no good at all, no good at all
Slow burn watching the world turn, from my arms
New way of measuring each day, until it's gone
Maybe I should drop by maybe I should have called
Maybe I should have followed you and beat down your door
Maybe it's gonna be breaking you every time you fall
But to shower you with pity will do you no good at all, no good at all
Sunrise building a reprise, in my heart
Regret tight around my chest, plays its part
Untill it's gone
Untill it's gone
But to shower you with pity will do you no good at all, no good at all
Now we're watching the sunset, sunset, sunset, sunset
Over the beaches, beaches, beaches, beaches
Watching the sunset, sunset, sunset, sunset
Over the beaches, beaches, beaches, beaches
Watching the sunset, sunset, sunset, sunset
Over the beaches, beaches, beaches, beaches
Watching the sunset, sunset, sunset, sunset
Over the beaches, beaches, beaches, beaches
